I was chilling after a long day, surfing blogs and after a multitude of clicks, I found Photograzing which is part of Seriouseats.com.  Being an amateur photographer, wanna-be food stylist and lover of food this was perfect for me.  I had to addit to my links.

Here you can see photos of fellow bloggers that link to recipes and you can even upload some of your favorite food photos.  I recommend you check it out, if you are like be you will be poking around for awhile.

I recently sent out an email to all my friends requesting models to sit and let me practice my portrait work, because I have never really done it.  I got a lot of responses so I hope to have more photos in the future.  I have been taking pictures as a hobby for a few years now, but I have never really focused on portraits.  Here is a sample of some of the pictures I took.  My friend Erica was kind enough to sit for me.  I was happy with the results although I would have like to do some more editing but I have yet to get Photoshop.  So these pictures are pretty much straight from my camera to the computer.   You can see more pictures on my Flicker account in the Erica set.  Please feel free to comment and critique.  Thank you, Erica for being my first guinea pig. :)

The last two classes we have been working on photographing a product and creating an advertisement for it.  Today I finally finished the project.  Now it’s not exactly professional but I like it.

Today I turned in my Depth of Field assignment.  Depth of field (DOF) is the portion of a scene that appears sharp in the image.  If you notice in these images the backgroud is what come in and out of foucus. Check out my images below:

On Saturday afternoon Hubby and I went out on our usual  Saturday afternoon run to the produce stand and the supermarket.  We decided to pop into the Goodwill across for the produce market just to see if we find anything interesting.  I am more of a skimmer, not one to really rummage through things.  Hubby on the other hand will dig, he considers it a bit of a treasure hunt and this visit he found something.  In a small basket on the back of a shelf, filled with cheap plastic 35 mm point-and-shoots, he found a Kodak Retina IIa.  Being of the automatic/digital age I found this to be very cool.

When we got home I of course had to “play” with my new find.  I figured out that the aperture, shutter speed and focus are all set by rings on the lens. The camera seems to be in working condition, except that the shutter mechinisum is hit or miss. The lens has a close focus of 2.5 feet and the shutter 1 to 1/500th, plus B  I also jumped online and found a manuel for the camera.  I also did a little research and discovered that this particular camera was manufactured in Germany between 1951 and 1954.  At the time it retailed for $170.00!  That was alot of money back then.  On ebay a camera like the one I found is averaging $50, I bought mine at the Goodwill for $4!  I found it also on ebay in mint condition with the case and manual for about $200.

I am super excited about this find, I hope to take some pictures with it in the future and post them.  Right now I am looking for a repair shop to clean & lube it for me and see if they can get the shutter mechnisum to work properly.

I am currently in class and believe it or not I am paying attention.  The professor is is currently going over our vintage assignment.  For this assignment were had to take a picture, convert it to black and white, color it in and layer some textures over it in Photoshop CS3.  Below is what I submitted.  I am waiting for it to come up on the screen and what he has to say.  The picture is of my niece’s feet.

Professor’s Response:
Very good, even something like this can be a “portrait”.  Just the feet can say a lot about the person.  Good coloring.
YEAH!  I did a good job according to the professor.  Anymore opinions?  Below is the before image.

I am sure many of you have notice by now that football season is in full swing. I have never really been much of a football fan but it seems everyone else around me is, so needless to say I am seeing my share of football.  Although I am not a big fan of watching it on TV and have no problem going to a live game.

Club Access

Hubby’s company was kind enough to buy season tickets to the USF Bulls’ games, Hubby’s alma mauter.  Friday night was the second game of the season, playing against Kansas. We went to a few games last season but we didn’t have season tickets.  This year with the season tickets come a few bonuses.  The first is club access with big comfy couches, air conditioning and flat screens, not to mention better concesion choices.  Also the big bonus…….padded seats!  I know that it sounds silly but when you are sitting on a hard acrylic seat for a few hours believe me you can appreciate the padding. :D

It is also fun to watch the student section.  Ah to be young again….not that I am old, but I am well past crowed surfing and wearing a bikini top with body paint on, a horned helmet and a grass skirt….although I don’t get the grass skirt.

All of that aside it was an awesome game!  Nail bitter all the way through.  At first it wasn’t looking so good.  We finished the first half behind 20-10, but we manage to pull ahead at the end of the 3rd quarter, to tie it again with 5:32 left in the 4th and (thank goodness) we won it at the very end with a 43 yd field goal!  I thought I was going to puke up my bacon cheeseburger I was screaming so loud. The place went insane! It was a blast!  In the end we beat Kansas 37-34. Read recap.

Others things of interest at the game.  During the Alma Mauter and when some players went down on the field the students raised their arms making the “bull” sign in support. It was neat to see a sea of people raising up in support like that.

Also Kansas fans made there appearance, it was a small sad little section but exsistant none-the-less, a speck of blue in a sea of green.  We also had a couple who sat in front of us wearing Kansas gear.  I was kind of funny to see them stand up and cheer all by themselves.

I also managed to get some home work done also for my photography class.  I had to get a pan shot and a blur shot, so I took some photos while the teams were practicing. You can see more pics on my Flicker account.

I recently began a new photography class at the local community collage.  Photography has been a hobby of mine for about 4 years, self taught and I am very excited to finally be taking a course.   I started with a little Canon point and shoot and have upgraded to a SLR, thanks to my Hubby.  Here are some of the pictures that I have done so far.

I hope to post more pictures and share my assignments.  I have more photos in my Flickr account.
